Lent… and Why We Do the Things We Do. “If you have a false idea of God, the more religious you are, the worse it is for you—it were better for you to be an atheist.” William Temple
So begins True Prayer: An Invitation to Christian Spirituality, the book we will be using for our Wednesday Evenings in Lent Series (W.E.L.S.) here at Nativity beginning on Wednesday evening, February 21st. Our Lenten study this year will feature a “back to basics” approach to Christian spirituality as we seek a renewed vision of God and re-ground ourselves in why we do the things we do. The book’s author, The Rev. Kenneth Leech (1939-2015), was an Anglican priest and social activist who served in a number of urban London parishes afflicted by poverty in which he confronted issues of racism and drug abuse.
As in the past, the evening will begin at 6:00 PM with a simple soup supper and then move upstairs to the Susan Baker Room for discussion and the sharing of our diverse experiences. The evening will conclude at 8:00. Cost for the series is $20 for the book, but no one will be turned away. All are welcome! A sign-up sheet for dinner and the study is available in the church hallway. See you there!
